LAC LA BICHE - On Oct. 11, only a handful of people, including a business owner and representatives from the Lac La Biche and District Chamber of Commerce, attended the latest in a series of regular open houses for the Main Street Revitalization Project. The session took place from 4-6 p.m. at the McArthur Place Tea Room.
Since the start of the latest phase of the $31.5 million Main Street makeover in May, Lac La Biche County and V3 Companies, the engineering firm in charge of overseeing the project, have collaborated to host the open houses every two weeks. These open houses are designed to keep the business community and members of the public informed about the progress of the project, and to give those who attend an opportunity to ask questions and browse design plans which are displayed inside the Tea Room.
The deadline to complete work on the current phase of the three-phase project to replace aging infrastructure along the downtown Main Street from 105 Street to 101 Street was recently pushed back to Nov. 15.
The next open house at McArthur Place takes place on Oct. 25.
The three-phase project has already upgraded the downtown roadway from 105 Street to 103 Street, upgrading old underground infrastructure, replacing sidewalks, curbs and gutters and reviving a downtown green-space. The overall project has a deadline of 2025 and will upgrade infrastructure and surface features along the downtown corridor to 100 Street, tying into the McArthur Park project that will see $7.5 million spent to upgrade the Lac La Biche Recreation Grounds.
