Library Con 2020 takes over Lac La Biche's Stuart MacPherson Library

The Stuart MacPherson Public Library will be hosting its Library Con this Saturday, Jan. 11, between 11 am and 3:30 pm.

The Stuart MacPherson Public Library will be hosting its Library Con this Saturday, Jan. 11, between 11 am and 3:30 pm.

This year will be the library’s fifth time hosting the sci-fi, superhero fantasy, manga, comic and video game super-show, and they hope to surpass their attendane record from the first event of 200 people.

The event is open to anyone interested in the anime, comic and gaming culture, quest adventures and riddles, or Marvel and DC characters.

Comics on sale

Vendors such as Drawn to Books will contribute to the 500 comics that readers can purchase during the event. Other vendors include T.K. Boomer, Blue Cave Workshop, InfiniTea, and Jailyn Corbin Fine Arts.

Local library officials are also incorporating a costume contest into Saturday's Library Con event. Those who participate are entered in a contest for best costume,  Library Director Maureen Penn told the POST.

“We will be taking pictures, we actually have a printer on site this time, and we’ll have special backdrops,” she said.

Penn says the Library Con is just one of the unique events the libraries in Lac La Biche and Plamondon host for the municipality. Following Library Con, next up is the Global Game Jam at the end of this month. This event will be at the Stuart MacPherson Library, and is open to anyone over the age of 18. Participants will have 48 hours to build a game with the help of professionally-skilled developers.
