LAC LA BICHE - On the afternoon of Aug. 22, construction crews were busy installing entry features on Main Street (101 Ave.) in Lac La Biche, as part of the $32.5 million Main Street Revitalization Project.
Construction for 2024 has been ongoing since April 23, and is expected to be wrapped up by Oct. 31.
A series of steel obelisks that are 11-and-a-half feet in height and are adorned with artistic designs, were being installed on the corner of 101 Ave., and 103 St. These structures will greet motorists and pedestrians as they enter Lac La Biche’s downtown core.
Around lunchtime on Thursday, Lac La Biche County gave the public a heads-up that there would be intermittent road closures in the area,. as the installation work progressed. The information also stated that there would be short-term lane closures.
Ali Memon, Lac La Biche County’s general manager of infrastructure, said construction crews were going to be narrowing the road to make room for a crane truck.
According to Memon, the work was only expected to take a few hours, with the road fully anticipated to be open later that afternoon.
