Music in the Forest series concludes with performance by Mallory Chipman

The series, which began in March with concert by singer-songwriter Maddie Storvold, concluded Thursday.

LAC LA BICHE - The 2023 Music in the Forest concert series wrapped up Thursday evening with a performance by Edmonton-based indie folk rock singer Mallory Chipman.

A large crowd gathered inside the community facility at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park for the early evening show, with Chipman and her five-piece band taking to the stage.

The Music in the Forest shows — seven over the summer and autumn months — are hosted by Alberta Parks to showcase independent artists from across Canada to rural Alberta audiences.

Throughout the season finale show — a two-hour performance — the multi-genre artist played her original material, including music from her most recent album As Though I Had Wings. The album, which was released in May, features music she wrote based on the melodies of birds calls from provincial birds.

Chipman, who has produced four solo albums, is working through the final stages of a new album which she recorded last April, Songs to a Wild God, which will be released next spring. She also has a busy upcoming touring schedule that includes December dates in Edmonton, Red Deer, and Cochrane, and a tour of Japan in February.

Besides being a producer and a member of the musical group the Goddamsels, Chipman was also recently named Edmonton Public Library’s first musician-in-residence.

The Lac La Biche Rotary Club had a table set up where attendees at Thursday's final show of the year where attendees could purchase coffee, tea, and hot chocolate by donation. Members of Rotary club's Interact youth group were also on hand for the show, selling popcorn Club, to raise money for local projects.

The 2023 Music in the Forest series started off in March with a performance by singer-songwriter Maddie Storvold. The first concert of 2024 is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, at the Churchill park community facility. The 2024 series starter will feature musician Eric Kane, the former frontman of KANE INCOGNITO, an Edmonton-based band that has received national radio play, nominations for Rock Recording of the Year, and Indie Rock Recording of the Year. He has also opened for several international acts.
