New CAO hired for Lac La Biche County

County hires new CAO with background in sustainable growth

In June, Lac La Biche County councillors let go of their Chief Administrative Officer, citing a need for a "leadership change." Four months later, councillors have announced a new leader of the municipality's administrative department.

Manny Deol will officially begin work as the new CAO on October 3.

“Mr. Deol brings years of expertise in enhancing the economic health of small municipalities like ours,” says Lac La Biche County Mayor Paul Reutov. “Council and I look forward to working with Mr. Deol to support current businesses and attract new investors that will diversify and strengthen the County’s economy.”

Deol was selected after what municipal officials call a competitive hiring process

Deol brings more than 30 years of experience as a CAO and in various executive roles, notably as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Town of Drayton Valley, where he specialized in economic development and growth.

Sustainable growth

According to information supplied by Lac La Biche County, Deol’s helped to bring hundreds of new jobs to the Drayton Valley area through economic development opportunities and new business growth.

Deol has also shown heavy administrative interests in Alberta's hemp industry where he served as the executive director of the Alberta Hemp Alliance, and was the chief operating officer of the Clean Technology Centre in Drayton Valley.

“I’m excited to work with County Administration to bring Council’s vision for the community to life,” he says. “Lac La Biche County is already on an exciting path, with major and exciting projects in the works that will drastically improve residents’ quality of life and create new investment opportunities. I believe that by continuing to diversify the economy and seeking even more partnerships with other levels of government, we can transform Lac La Biche County into the top municipality in which to live, work, and raise a family, not just in northern Alberta, but the entire province.”

The CAO is Council’s only employee, carrying out their direction and leading Lac La Biche County’s Administration
