'Paint the Ice' wraps up ice season at Lac La Biche's Bold Centre

The event took place at the Bold Centre's Swamp Cats Arena on July 20.

LAC LA BICHE – On July 20, a group of kids and their parents brought their artistic skills to Lac La Biche’s Bold Centre to give a colourful finish to the ice season during the ‘Paint the Ice’ event.

Paint the Ice, which was put on by the Lac La Biche County Recreation Department, involved participants entering the Bold Centre’s Swamp Cats arena with paints and brushes in hand to make vibrant and creative flowers, houses, and other designs on the surface of the ice.

The event went from 1-3 p.m., and immediately after it was over, facility operators at the Bold Centre began the process of taking out the ice. According to Hannah Williams, a recreation programmer with Lac La Biche County, there will be no ice until the end of August or early September, depending on what events are being held in the arena.

Williams said the atmosphere inside the arena was creative and fun, and recreational staff received plenty of positive feedback from participants.

“We had a steady turnout of families and individuals who enjoyed the unique opportunity to leave their mark on the ice,” she said. “It was a great way to bring the community together before the ice plant shut down, and it’s something we’d consider doing again in the future.”

Events like this, give “kids and parents the chance to be part of something unique, creating lasting memories together. Activities like this promote a sense of pride and ownership in our facilities, and they help foster a welcoming environment where everyone feels included and involved,” said Williams.
