Portage breaks winless streak in last game before Christmas break

Voyageurs beat Augustana, first win of the regular season

The streak is over.  The Portage College Voyageurs have won their first hockey game of the regular season after 11-straight losses going back to a pre-season game on September 30.

The Voyageurs beat the Augustana Vikings on Saturday night in Camrose, winning 2-1 in a game that needed a few minutes of overtime to determine a winner.  Mikal Chalifoux scored the game-winner for the Voyageurs. Portage' netminder Alex Brousseau kept his team in the game, facing 41 shots on the night. The Portage offence managed only 24 shots on the Augustana net.

Saturday night's win came in the second game of the weekend for the two teams. In the Friday night tilt at Lac La Biche's Bold Center, the Vikings won 5-3.

Ironically, it was the Augustana team that was the last win for the Voyageurs in that September pre-season game.
