LAC LA BICHE – Students in the Indigenous Arts and Culture certificate program and the Artisan Entrepreneurship diploma program at Portage College showcased their work during an art exposé held at the Lac La Biche campus on June 5.
People had the opportunity to look over the various traditional pieces of art, which included intricate beadwork, handcrafted moccasins, detailed, carvings, soapstone art, and murals.
Clara Desjarlais, a second-year student in the Artisan Entrepreneurship program who graduated during Portage College’s convocation ceremony on June 6, said the event highlights what students have made throughout the year.
“It shows our culture, our ability, our art skills,” Desjarlais said.
Now that she has completed the Artisan Entrepreneurship program, Desjarlais has her sights set on starting her own business.
“I had lost my culture throughout the years. Spiritually, I feel like it’s a part of me now,” she said. “It’s a healing journey."
