LAC LA BICHE - A large crowd turned out for the Portage College annual fall open house, which took place at the Lac La Biche campus on Nov. 6.
The event, held from 6-8 p.m. in the college gymnasium, was designed to provide prospective students with an opportunity to learn about the over 40 academic programs offered through Portage College. These programs include: Arts, Business, Trades and Technology, Nursing, Pre-Hospital Care, Hairstyling, Social Work, Human Services, and more.
Throughout the evening, those who attended the open house – which included current high school students interested in career opportunities – spoke with instructors, program staff and current Portage College students who answered questions they had about each program, including entrance requirements.
Portage across the region
The $50 application fee was waived for those who applied at the open houses, which were also held at Portage College campuses in St. Paul and Cold Lake on Tuesday and Wednesday. The open houses also featured campus tours and a draw to win $1,000 off tuition.
In September, Portage College launched a social media campaign to promote the open houses. Guidance counsellors also raised awareness to students in regional high schools about the events.
