Portage College Social Work students raise money for 2024 trip

On Friday afternoon, students in the community social work program at Portage College had a visible presence outside of Britton’s Independent in Lac La Biche, serving up barbecued hamburgers and soft drinks in a bid to raise money for a trip to

Portage College Community Social Work program students Trishia Monias, Lyric Lewis and Emily Richards were part of the BBQ-crew outside Britton's Your Independent Grocers last Friday who dished up friendly smiles with freshly barbecued burger and a drink to customers like Felix Lewis .

Students and instructors from the program were serving up barbecued burgers and soft drinks to raise money and awareness for a class trip to Ireland and Scotland next year. The trip will show students how social work and care practices are done in other countries, and will show them the history of the social-care systems in those countries.

The BBQ was part of a fundraising campaign to help with costs for the trip that is set to take place in February of 2024. Funds from the BBQ will be added to money already contributed by the individual students and from other fundraising events.  Chris McGarry photo.
