Visits to fire hall and police stations keep safety at forefront, say Lac La Biche officials

Whether they have been young school children or older community members, local emergency responders say it's always nice to host a tour and explain more about the roles of local emergency services.

Even with the school year is on summer recess, Lac La Biche County Regional Fire Chief John Kokotilo says community groups can arrange visits to the fire hall and the local fire service programming. He also said community open houses are arranged through the year and offer  great way to show youngsters the equipment and show older residents the programs and opportunities available as possible volunteer firefighters at stations across the region.

In a recent tour of the Lac La Biche fire hall, prior to school letting out at the end of June, a dozen youngsters from the Light of Christ Catholic School preschool class were given an education about local emergency services and vehicles during a visit that also included the Lac La Biche County Protective Services Building that houses the municipal peace officers.

The youngsters at the recent tour also got a first-hand look at the Lac La Biche RCMP detachment across the road from the county's Protective Services Building.

Local police and fire officials say it is important to introduce the younger generations to the emergency services staff so they become familiar with the work that is being done in the community around them.
