Public consultation on proposed family acreages

Lac La Biche residents are invited to a public consultation regarding a new subdivision that will be built off the Mission Road and offer over-sized residential lots.

Lac La Biche residents are invited to a public consultation regarding a new subdivision that will be built off the Mission Road and offer over-sized residential lots.

Project planner Darlene Paranaque says landowner Frank Nashim is looking at building single family homes between one and three acres in size. The first phase of development will include about 15 homes and will possibly venture into two more phases.

"The purpose [of the public consultation] is to get initial feedback,” said Paranaque adding that some of the feedback may be incorporated into the report to the county.

Nashim's daughter Carol Hebert said he wanted to put his property to use. They decided they wanted to create a neighbourhood for families where they can have the privacy of their own acreage outside of town, and the space to have a dog run around and not bother the neighbours or even put up a workshop.

"It's a great opportunity for people who don't want to live in town but want to live close to town [to get the services],” said Hebert, adding that it was important to families to be close enough to get to their workplaces as well as their kids' hockey practice.

Paranaque says the plan is to create a natural feel as well. They are preserving as many trees as possible and going above and beyond county requirements for green space.

The public consultation will be held Sept. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lac La Biche Mission.
