It's exam week for Lac La Biche, Plamondon and students across the region.

Question 1: Today marks the beginning of what event for area high school students?

A. Exam Week     B. Exam Week   C. Exam Week    D. All of the Above.

If you guessed Exam Week ... you're thinking like hundreds of area students who will be writing their Provincail Diploma Exams in their core subjects this week.

Starting today, Wednesday, Jan. 22 and going to Jan. 30, staff at Ecole Plamondon and J.A Williams High School will begin handing out exam papers. There are no other classes during the exam week schedule for students taking exams. For francophone students at  Ecole Beausejour, they still have their regular schedule, but exams will be scheduled throughout the next two weeks based on a teacher's decision.

All students taking exams will have to sign in and sign out of their schools, allowing staff to maintain a student roster in case of emergency, say NLPS officials.

Each exam sitting can last up to six hours.

"Teachers have been tirelessly preparing our students for exams with review and tutorials, even through the inclement weather days when we had no school," says J. A. Williams High School principal Conal Donovan.  "We especially want to thank the JAWS Parent Advocacy Council for showing up before each exam offering well-wishes of good luck and complimentary nutritious snacks to ready their young brains for a peak performance on their finals"

Exams run rain or shine or freeze

Staff at J.A Williams High School have issued reminders to parents that even if weather conditions force bus cancelations during exam week, the exams will till be taking place. There are opportunities for deferrals or exemptions, but according to provincial policies regarding the exams, weather is not one of the accepted excuses. Students who end up having to postpone their diploma exam will not be able to write the test until April or June, due to Learner Assessment not granting an exemption for the weather.

Arrangments after exams

All exams will go on until Friday, Jan. 31, right before the start of the second semester. Parents and guardians who have students writing diploma exams at Ecole Plamondon or J.A Williams High School are asked to make arrangements for their kids once they are finished writing their exams.
