LAC LA BICHE - Getting together with friends and neighbours for a night of bingo is a great time, but playing bingo with a retro 1970s theme is even more fun.
That’s exactly what happened on March 16 when a large group of people gathered inside the basement hall of St. Anne’s Church in Venice Heritage Park. The event, called ‘Old Time Easter Bingo’, was organized by the Venice-Hylo Heritage Historical and Preservation Society as a fundraiser for the non-profit local group.
The games got started at 6:30 p.m., with the caller rolling the numbered balls in an antique hand-rolled bingo cage as players checked their numbers on vintage slide-window bingo cards and regular cards dabbed with markers as the winning digits were called out from the front of the hall. The bingo event featured a six series with three games each as well as bonanza games. Game prizes included frozen turkeys and ham roasts, an Easter food hamper, and basket prizes. With quite a few of those in attendance dressed as throwbacks to the 1970s, there were also prizes for best-dressed.
In addition to the bingo games, there was also a concession area that sold hot dogs, nachos, and sweets.
Organizers say more fun events are planned for the year as a way to raise funds and awareness for the church and historical park.
