There will be plenty of wine, and plenty of cheese at the Rotary Club’s seventh annual wine tasting fundraiser on Oct. 20. McArthur Place will once again play host to the formal evening, and with seven different tables of red, white and sparking beverages, there is sure to be more than enough lively liquid to balance out a great evening.
“We’re really looking forward to another great evening,” said Sue Ward, one of the Rotary Club organizers. “This is the event that we look forward to all year.”
Wines on the vast menu will include a selection of dry reds from Argentina, sweet moscatos from Germany and light Pinot noirs from California along with several different champagnes and sauvignon blancs that will contribute to making this the signature event for the Rotary Club.
“We have plenty of great wines to choose from paired with some delicious homemade hors d’oeuvres,” said Brydon Ward, one of the organizers of the evening.
If the wine won’t get you to the McArthur Place, the homemade hor d’oeuvres will certainly tempt the taste buds. Smoked Salmon, curried coconut chicken, wild rice scallions and decadent chocolate are just a few of the many different options available for pairings expertly matched to the various wines.
“The food here is so good, we get people coming that don’t even want the wine, they just come for the hor d’oeuvres,” Sue Ward said.
Forty dollars will get you into the event that starts at 7 p.m. and also features a silent auction. Homemade quilts, wine baskets and specialty art are a few of the highlights on the auction list.
And while the night focuses on wine, the local Rotarians certainly encourage anyone to come, as all tastes will be catered to.
“We’ll have non alcoholic beverages and plenty of hor d’oeuvres,” she said. “Although sampling wine is great, it’s more about supporting a great cause.”
The money raised during at the event will go towards the Rotary Club’s literary project at Vera M. Welsh, and their international efforts helping out a school in Belize.
“We really do want to promote literary as best we can, and thankfully we have several great projects locally and internationally that the Rotary Club can give back to,” Sue said.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Liquor Stop and the Vitality Centre or at the door.
