LAC LA BICHE - On June 28, some Lac La Biche County councillors and municipal administration gathered alongside contractors to officially break ground on the redevelopment of McArthur Park, which begins this summer.
The $7.3 million project will be completed in three phases, with work expected to wrap up in the fall of 2025.
“The revitalization will be done over three construction seasons,” explained Jihad Moghrabi, the marketing and communications manager for Lac La Biche County. “This year, we will be focused on creating a new parking area and taking down fencing around the old ball diamonds.”
Over the next few years, locals and visitors alike will witness a transformation of McArthur Park. The redevelopment plan includes the installation of new walkways, an enhanced public square and picnic area, as well as a new skate park and bicycle track. Upgrades will also be made to the adjacent beach area on the Lac La Biche lake’s shoreline
Once completed, the makeover of the popular local recreation area will also feature improved lighting and a seasonal dock which will enable boaters to access the park. Furthermore, there will be a permanent dock for people to use year-round, especially for watching the northern lights in the wintertime.
“The project also includes a bike park, as well as a skateboard skills zone,” Moghrabi confirmed, adding that although there are going to be many changes, some things stay the same, such as the Rotary Club’s outdoor gym, the museum and the splash park.
Park and Main Street connection
The McArthur Park revitalization plan coincides with the beautification of Main Street, with construction of that first phase of that project in the downtown core expected to be finished by fall.
“These projects truly add to the ambience of our community, giving people a place to enjoy,” Moghrabi stated. “
