LAC LA BICHE – Canada Day in the Lac La Biche area concluded with a bang, a very colourful and thunderous one.
Late on the evening of July 1, a large crowd made its way into Lac La Biche’s McArthur Park in anticipation of the spectacle, which has been an annual event in the community for many years.
People of all ages, including many families, brought lawn chairs and set up on the hill overlooking Lac La Biche Lake to watch the fireworks, while others sat and stood in the parking lot of the Lac La Biche Museum, or in different areas of McArthur Park.
At 11 p.m. sharp, the skies overlooking the lake erupted in a loud, multicoloured spectacle as fireworks exploded in the air. ‘Oh Canada’ played out on a loudspeaker as the show went on for about 12 minutes.
The fireworks show for Canada Day 2025 attracted folks near and far, including Kristy Dragon, who lives in Peace River and was in Lac La Biche visiting with her family.
Dragon, who was with family at McArthur Park to take in the show, enjoyed the display.
“What’s not to like? They’re amazing…it’s good,” she said with a smile.
Sitting amongst the sightseers on top of the hill in McArthur Park was Lac La Biche County resident Sandy Makokis. Makokis, who comes to watch the fireworks show each year, likes being able to get close to the Canada Day spectacle, which she says is a great thing for the area.
“It is really something for the community to look forward to that everybody can enjoy…there’s no restrictions on the number of people that can come,” Makokis told Lakeland This Week.
Dave Phillips, a long-time resident of Lac La Biche, also enjoys coming to the Canada Day fireworks show every year.
“I love the smell, the sound, the lights, the flashing…I just love it,” Phillips said. “It’s the way it should be done.”
