Lac La Biche Fire Department members were on hand to secure a landing zone for a STARS helicopter called into Lac La Biche for an emergency medical transport at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The helicopter, a large AW-139 is the newest machine in the STARS fleet. It was met by Lac La Biche Regional EMS ambulance crews and the fire department members in the open field south of the hospital alongside homes in the Dumasfield subdivision.

The noise of the machine startled some residents who commented on the Lac La Biche POST's facebook site as they wished the patient the best.
The helicopter came in from the STARS hangar at the Edmonton International Airport.
STARS helicopters have landed in the area previously, including one in recent years that landed on the north side of the hospital on the greenspace beside the facility's main parking lot. That space in recent weeks, however, as been piled with snow, forcing Wednesday morning's helicopter to opt for the south side of the hospital.

There was no information available on the condition of the patient.
