LAC LA BICHE – For decades, a community parade held in Lac La Biche has served as the start of the Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days weekend.
When Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days returns for the August long weekend, people will be able to be enjoy the customary parade, which is set for 11 a.m. on the morning of Aug. 1.
Due to ongoing construction on the block of Lac La Biche’s 101 Avenue (Main Street) from 101 Street and 100 Street, which is expected to remain closed until late August, the parade route will be a bit different this year.
According to Hazel Costa, a director with the Lac La Biche Pow Wow Days and Fish Derby Association, the parade will start at 104 Street next to the Light of Christ Catholic School before moving towards 101 Ave.
“At the 101 Street intersection we will take a left turn and exit to 102 Avenue, between Canada Post and AG foods,” Costa said.
The parade will be marshalled by members of the Lac La Biche Kinsmen club, who she says are helping to organize floats and maintain safety along the route.
“We are expecting at least 40 floats this year.”
Lac La Biche Wow Days highlights the rich cultural heritage of the community, and the parade is a terrific way to kick off a weekend of fun festivities that includes a midway, talent show, ball tournament, fish derby, fish fry, a car show, and other activities.
“It brings together various community groups and businesses to participate and showcase their presence,” Costa said.
