UPDATE: County officials say timeline for Lac La Biche water fix uncertain

Crews working as quickly as they can, say Lac La Biche County officials

Lac La Biche County officials are saying there is no specific timeframe for when water services will return to normal for residents in an area of the Lac La Biche hamlet affected by water main breaks on Wednesday night.

The underground utility lines were affected during a fire department response to a garage fire at a residence along 103 Street. After the fire was put out, water service to the area was shut off to isolate what is believed to be at least two breaks in the main water line.

While RCMP and peace officers were going door-to-door on the night of the fire telling residents their water service would be affected until at least noon on Thursday, municipal officials are now saying there is no specific timeframe for the fix.

Lac La Biche County spokesperson Jihad Moghrabi told LakelandToday on Thursday morning that municipal crews are working diligently to restore the service and fix the problem areas as quickly as possible, but "we’re actually not yet sure when we’ll be able to restore water services for the moment."

In total, said Moghrabi, 68 homes in the area have been affected by the water line issues.

Fire officials have yet to release a suspected cause of the blaze that completely destroyed the garage and its contents. No one was believed to have been injured in the fire.
