April 7 marks a very special day for residents in Lac La Biche: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, hockey's holy grail will be on display at the Scotiabank branch, with plenty of photo opportunities and prize giveaways throughout the day.

The event comes via Scotiabank's 'Celebration of Hockey', a cross-county tour that is visiting communities throughout Canada that allows citizens the opportunity to spend time with hockey's most famous trophy. Lac La Biche was chosen by a selection committee based on their hockey history and the prevalence of hockey in the community.

"Whether you play hockey or cheer from the stands, the Stanley Cup is a cultural symbol that all Canadians can proudly identify with,” said Lacey Chicoine, Lac La Biche Scotiabank branch manager.

There is no admission cost to view the cup, although time is limited. The first 500 people that come out to Scotiabank on Saturday will get their picture professionally taken with the cup for free.

"We are huge hockey fans here in Lac La Biche and I know the community will be eager to get up close and personal with the Cup,” said Peter Kirylchuk, the mayor of Lac La Biche. "We are thankful to the Scotiabank Celebration of Hockey for making it happen.”

The Post will also be running a few prize giveaways. Simply tell us in 150 words or less why the Cup is the best trophy in sports, and you could win one of three prizes including: two early-bird line passes to have your own private moment with the cup, a prize pack with a jersey, puck, water bottle, and a digital photo package. To enter our contest, simply email your response to [email protected] and include your name, address and telephone number. The Post "Cup” contest closes on April 2.
