Voyageurs beat NAIT in Friday night home game

Voyageurs win second game in a week as ACAC regular season winds down

The second half of the season has been a good one for the Portage College Voyageurs men's hockey team, after they notched their second win in three games Friday night, beating the NAIT Ooks 4-3 in an overtime win at the Bold Center.

The Voyageurs have had only two other regular season wins — beating SAIT last week, and Augustana in November.

The win keeps the Voyageurs in seventh-place of the seven-team Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference with eight points. Friday's loss for NAIT, who currently occupy third place in the ACAC standings, kept them three points back of second place Red Deer Polytechnic and four points back of league-leading Briercrest College.

The Voyageurs latest win puts them 11 points behind the sixth place Concordia University Thunder with just five regular season games to go before the start of playoffs.  Only the top six teams in the seven-team leage earn playoff spots.

The second game of the weekend series between Portage and the Ooks is Saturday night at 6pm in Edmonton.

The Lac La Biche Post newsroom will provide more updates and scores as they happen.
