LAC LA BICHE - On Sept. 6, members of the Portage College Voyageurs men’s and women’s soccer teams were at the Bold Centre field practicing their game for the upcoming season.
Both teams have played three exhibition games and two regular season games to start the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference soccer season. The women lost all three exhibition games — playing Olds College, Kings University and Keyano — but rebounded last week with a scoreless tie and a 1-0 win in away games against Grande Prairie's Northwest Polytechnic (NWP) to start their regular season. The Portage men's team had a similar rebound in their first regular season games to start September, coming back from three-straight losses in exhibition games through August. The men's team beat NWP 3-0 and 3-1 in their away matches over the September 9 weekend to start the ACAC regular season.
Friday games
Last week's team practices on the Bold Center sports field turf served as a warm-up for their regular season home openers on Friday, September 15 when they play against the visiting NAIT OOKS. Game time for the women's team is 5 pm. The Voyageur men's squad plays at 7.
Both teams are on the road Sunday, Sept. 19, heading to Fort McMurray for a rematch with the Keyano Huskies.
Voyageur men first in ACAC North
Going into the weekend games with NAIT and Keyano, the Portage men are in first place of their seven-team ACAC North Division with six points. The Voyageur women's team is in second place of the seven-team ACAC North division with four points, trailing the undefeated Huskies by two points.
The next home game for the Voyageur teams is Sunday, Sept. 24 when they play Lakeland College.
