Voyageurs suffer consecutive losses to SAIT Trojans

The games took place at the Bold Center on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Portage College Voyageurs men’s hockey team suffered a double loss to the SAIT Trojans in a pair of home games that took place over the November 8 weekend.

The Voyageurs lost 4-2 to the Trojans on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday.

During Friday’s game, SAIT’s Zach Cain got his team onto the scoreboard first at six minutes and 20 seconds into the first period. However, 10 minutes later, Voyageurs forward Tye Evans, with assistance from teammates Carter Yarish and Brydon Bell, tied the game 1-1.

It would be the third period before Portage College scored another goal. Kaden Kohle, with help from fellow Voyageurs Mikal Chalifoux and Mason Beck, at 12 minutes and 17 seconds into the third, made the scoreboard 2-2. Unfortunately, the Voyageurs were unable to score any more goals, and the Trojans would emerge with a 4-2 victory.

SAIT stayed in Lac La Biche for an early afternoon rematch that took place the following day at the Bold Center. Both teams remained off the scoreboard during the first period of that 4-1 contest. Almost halfway through the second period, Yarish scored Portage College’s first and only goal.

The Voyageurs, currently in sixth spot in their seven-team Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) North Division, are back on home ice on Nov. 14 and 15 for a pair of games against Briercrest College. The first match takes place on Friday at 7 p.m. while Saturday’s puck-drop is slated for 1 p.m.
