Woman charged with shooting common-law

Condition of victim improves to stable

LAC LA BICHE - A 31-year-old Lac La Biche-area man is in hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, and a 27-year-old woman is facing several charges in connection to a Jan. 6 shooting at a home near Missawawi Lake, west of the Lac La Biche hamlet.

Lac La Biche RCMP were called to a rural residence that night, responding to reports than a person had suffered a single gunshot wound. The weapon is believed to have been a .22 calibre firearm. Police say the victim had arrived at the home of a woman he had been in a relationship. Shortly after he arrived, an argument reportedly took place.

The man was taken to Edmonton's University Hospital with serious injuries. On Friday, he was said to be in stable condition.

Madison Willow Armstrong, 27, is facing charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Armstrong has not been remanded into custody, and is scheduled to be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on March 1 in relation to the charges.

Second shooting

The Missawawi shooting incident was the second in two days for Lac La Biche RCMP, as they responded to a call on Jan. 4 about a man who had been shot near a home in the Lac La Biche hamlet on 99 Avenue.

That victim was said to have suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. In that case, three local men remain in custody awaiting their next court appearance slated for Jan. 19. An update on the condition of the victim in that case hasn't been made available.
