No serious injuries in Lac La Biche area highway crash

Traffic halted after crash on Highway 36

Lac La Biche RCMP, peace officers, fire and ambulance were at the scene of a collision on Highway 36 south of the Lac La Biche hamlet an hour ago. Emergency crews were called after a passenger van was reportedly rear-ended by another vehicle at the intersection to the Beaver Lake Cree Nation about 10 kilometres south of the hamlet.

Lac La Biche RCMP say the initial investigation shows the collision was between two southbound vehicles, as a mini-van with three occupants had slowed to turn east onto the Beaver Lake Cree Nation access road and a following pickup truck rear-ended the van.

The pickup drove into the west ditch following the collision. Police say the lone occupant of the truck declined medical attention at the scene. The occupants of the van were taken to Lac La Biche Hospital as a precaution.
Traffic at the intersection was blocked for about half an hour after the collision.  By 2:30, debris had been cleared and traffic was flowing again in all directions.

The pickup truck driver has been charged with following too closely which comes with a fine of $233.
