Bonnyville library offers a closer look at the stars

A new addition to the Bonnyville Municipal Library’s collection will allow library card holders to get a closer look at the galaxies above, with a Classic 200P Dobsonian telescope.

BONNYVILLE – This spring, the Bonnyville Municipal Library is buzzing with a variety of new and unique activities for all ages with a wide range of programs planned each week.

On April 27, the Bonnyville library held a special meet and greet for the library’s latest addition to its collection – a Classic 200P Dobsonian telescope.

The Meet the Telescope evening was meant for people interested in getting a closer look at the newest item available to borrow, as well as additional information on how to use the telescope.

With a telescope length of 43 inches and an instrument base that comes with it, the 200P Dobsonian telescope will require quite the commitment for a library card holder wanting to take-out the device and tote it around.

The specific model of telescope purchased by the library is known for its large apertures and easy functionality, which is ideal for beginner astronomy enthusiasts.

Proper use of the telescope should allow the users to witness faint objects such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies on a clear night, according to the device’s manufacturer, Sky-Watcher.

Family STEAM night

Last Thursday, the Bonnyville Library also hosted a Family STEAM Night, which was designed as a fun way to challenge youth and their parents in the areas of science, technology, art, engineering and math.

Families had to work together to complete STEAM tasks with Lego, coding robots and much more.
