BONNYVILLE – On Wednesday, Station 5 Bonnyville responded to a fire that ignited on a coach style bus outside of town.
Fire crews were dispatched at 8:05 a.m. to the scene located at Highway 660 and Range Road 455 on May 18, according to a statement by Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney with the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA).
“The fire appears to have been caused by a blow out of a tire,” stated Heney. “All passengers were evacuated safely, and there were no injuries.”
Grass fire
Crews from Station 3 Glendon responded to and extinguished a grass fire on Sunday, May 15.
Glendon’s firefighters were called to the location near Highway 881 and Township Road 614, at 12:25 p.m.
"The fire was caused by sparks from a burn barrel that lit up the dry grass and then ran quickly with the wind,” explained Heney.
Motorist flees the scene
On May 13, Station 5 Bonnyville firefighters were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 28 and 66 St. at 12:45 p.m.
One vehicle had fled the scene prior to emergency crews arriving, according to the fire chief.
“The remaining driver was assessed by EMS but was not transported to hospital and their vehicle did not require a tow,” he confirmed.
Five medical assists in seven days
In a one-week period, volunteer firefighters throughout BRFA responded to five calls requiring medical assistance due to a lack of ambulance response capacity.
Fire crews are called in to assist with medical emergencies when ambulance services are unable to respond to an event before other emergency services can be available and attend.
On May 11, Station 7 Fort Kent and Station 8 Ardmore responded at 11 a.m. to a medical assist call in Ardmore.
Later that night, Station 4 Iron River and Station 6 La Corey crews were called in for a medical assist located near Highway 41 and Township Road 625 at 9:15 p.m.
Firefighters from Station 5 Bonnyville responded to medical assist call within the town limits on May 15.
On May 17, Station 3 Glendon responded to a medical assist call at 5:30 a.m. The medical event took place near Highway 660 and Highway 881
Later that day, Station 5 responded to another medical call at 12:40 p.m. that occurred near Highway 660 and Range Road 455.
