COLD LAKE – Kinosoo Beach in Cold Lake has become a haven to seek respite from the summer’s warm embrace. And as the Heritage Day long weekend nears, so does the much-awaited 2023 Aqua Days set for Aug. 5.
The annual event at Kinosoo Beach promises many “exciting events,” perfect for families looking for activities to enjoy during the long weekend, said City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland. “It’s a great event to bring your kids... and if the weather cooperates, it should be a great time” for everyone.
Events include live stage entertainment, a vendor alley, water sports rentals, the Adventure Wrangler Dinosaur Show, giant slip n' slides and much more. Among the highlights of the day are the always popular Cardboard Boat Races, said Copeland. It’s a crucial part of the event and Aqua Days would not be complete without the races.
“People have to use cardboard... and duct tape,” to design a boat capable of completing a short course without sinking, said Copeland, expressing his excitement about the event.
One of the aims of Aqua Days is to create tourism and economic development in the city, according to Copeland. But also, Aqua Days hopes to simply bring families and the community together.
“For example, down at the beach on a good hot day, you’ll see tons of families down there... having a great time with all their friends,” he said. “That’s what Kinosoo Beach is about... It’ll be a good weekend. I just hope it’ll be sunny and not raining.”
Copeland encourages the Cold Lake community, as well as those from other communities to attend Aqua Days.
“Come on out and see what it is,” he said. The mayor thanked all those involved with organizing the event, as well as the City of Cold Lake staff for their work and preparation. “Really, the staff deserve all the credit [because] they have to give their long weekend.”
Aqua Days will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a fireworks display will wrap up the day at 10 p.m.
