VERMILION - After being alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the early morning hours of Feb. 5, Vermilion RCMP would arrest and charge a Cold Lake man with a list of offences.
A concerned citizen called in the suspicious vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the driving lane just north of Vermilion, on Hwy. 41.
"Responding members located the vehicle and quickly determined the vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues," according to RCMP. "The investigator’s suspicions were raised while interacting with the driver."
RCMP determined that the vehicle was stolen, and as result the driver was arrested and a search resulted in the seizure of just over 300 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and about four grams of suspected fentanyl. There were also other indicators of drug trafficking.
Jonathan Drake Blyan, 28, of Cold Lake was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5,000
- Fail to comply with a release order, three counts
Blyan was remanded to appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on Feb. 16, 2021, to speak to bail.
“The interdiction of this significant amount of illegal drugs will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the community it was destined for. If it were not for the timely reporting from a member of the community, RCMP may not have been able to make this arrest and seizure,” said Cpl. Mike Dunsmore of the Vermilion RCMP.
