Cold Lake region reporting 27 active cases of COVID-19

Areas across the Lakeland are once again reporting an increase in positive cases of COVID-19.

LAKELAND - As the number of positive COVID-19 cases rises across the province, the Lakeland region is also seeing an increase in cases once again, in what has been described as the fourth wave.

According to the Alberta Health Services map, the Cold Lake area is sitting at 27 positive cases of the respiratory virus, the highest of any region in northeastern Alberta. In comparison, the Fort McMurray region is reporting 23 active cases, and Strathcona County, located near Edmonton, is reporting 21 cases.

Elsewhere in the Lakeland, the MD of Bonnyville is reporting 12 active cases, the St. Paul region is sitting at 13 active cases, and the Smoky Lake region has 10 active cases. 

The Lac La Biche region is so far experiencing fewer cases, with only four active cases reported. 

As of Aug. 12, there are 4,101 active cases in the province. Of those cases, 146 people are in hospital, and 36 are in intensive case.

A total of 550 new cases were confirmed on Aug. 11.
