Country night in Lac La Biche with Dean Brody and friends

Man of many talents, backed by talented band and opening act keeps Lac La Biche audience cheering

The Dean Brody concert at Lac La Biche 's Bold Center filled the fieldhouse arena on Friday night. The BC-born singer -  songwriter performed hits from his decade and a half of studio albums, including his smash hits Canadian Summer, Bush Party and People Know You by Your First Name

Brody is a 16-time Canadian County Music Award winner and has two Juno Awards so far in his career. He has had eight songs chart to number-one on the Canadian country music charts and numerous songs charting into the top 20.

A good show

Either stomping up the drum beat and growling out small-town anthems, backed by electric guitar and fiddle to a cheering crowd, or keeping the audience hanging on every word of a ballad written for his young daughter, I'd Go To Jail, played with just an acoustic guitar, Brody's show gave the crowd what they came for.

Ontario-based country signer Roger West opened for Brody, cowboying-up some classic covers from country and rock genres. West also performed a duet with his young daughter to a round of applause from the Bold Center audience.

Brody's stop in Lac La Biche — a small town he said reminded him of his hometown of Jaffray, a community of just 500 people located south of Cranbrook — is part of a summer tour for the 47-year-old performer. Brody finished the weekend with a show in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, before taking a little break prior to July and August concert dates in Ontario.

Brody has released his last two albums on his own independent record label, Scurvy Dog Music. He has released two new singles in the last year, with a new record anticipated to be released soon. Brody is also in the beer business, creating his own craft brew called Hucklejack Canadian Lager.

The singer is also a philanthropist, founding the Dean Brody Foundation, an organization focused on the rescue and prevention of young girls exploited in human trafficking in Brazil and around the world.
