Boyle RCMP have issued a warning to drivers planning travel that involves Highway 63 over the next several hours — drive to the conditions of the road ... or stay off the road.
Since the latest snowfall began last night, Boyle RCMP have attended numerous collisions along the Highway 63 corridor and are advising motorists to take extra time if they have to travel over the next several hours — and while the snow continues to fall.
"Boyle RCMP are currently on scene and continuing to respond to a number of collisions on Highway 63, between Elscott and Grassland," says the press release issued to regional media this afternoon.
Slow down and respect emergency crews
Police are advising motorists to allow for extra time when travelling, and to slow down when approaching any accident scene to allow first responders and tow truck operators a safe area to work in.
"Police are advising that the road conditions are icy, slushy, and there is limited visibility due to the falling snow," states the release, issued by Boyle RCMP Const. Andrew Deme. "Police are asking motorists to slow down and drive to the road conditions, or to avoid Highway 63 if possible."
Adding to the concerns as motorists head into the overnight, Environment Canada is calling for the risk of freezing rain in the region, as temperatures are expected to remain in the minus single digits. The forecast for Friday and into Saturday is for a 30 per cent chance of flurries with daytime highs ranging from -2 to -8 Celsius.
