École Plamondon and J.A. Williams share grad day

The June 24 weekend in Lac La Biche County was a busy one as three graduation classes celebrated convocation at the same time.

LAKELAND - The June 24 weekend in Lac La Biche County was a busy one as three graduation classes celebrated convocation at the same time.

Graduates from École Plamondon School, J.A. Williams High School and the Lac La Biche Regional Off Campus School were all recognized in the Class of 2023.

In Plamondon, 26 graduates crossed the stage, received certificates and were congratulated by friends and family at the afternoon convocation ceremony at Plamondon's Festival Centre. Representatives from the school, Northern Lights Public Schools and the municipality were on hand to move grad-cap tassels, shake hands and pass on encouragement to the graduating class.

In Lac La Biche, 91 students were graduating from the J.A. Williams class of 2023. Before the afternoon convocation ceremony, students took part in a motorcade parade along Beaver Hill Road, waving to community members standing along the parade route. The grad parade has become a mainstay of the convocation day since it started in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. At their afternoon ceremony students marched into the Bold Center fieldhouse in front of hundreds of family and friends to begin the convocation ceremony.

The JAWS ceremony also included the three graduating students from the Off-Campus School.

The weekend graduation ceremonies come on the heels of previous Grad Class events held earlier in June at the Light of Christ Catholic School and École Beausejour.
