Fatal rollover claims life of Kehewin man

It is believed that the man swerved to avoid a dog on the road.

KEHEWIN - A single vehicle rollover on Oct. 15 claimed the life of a 47-year-old man from Kehewin Cree Nation.

Bonnyville RCMP responded to the rollover at about 2:45 p.m. An investigation determined a SUV travelling east on Highway 657 swerved to avoid a dog on the road. The vehicle then rolled into the north ditch.

The Kehewin Cree Nation Fire Department attended the scene and provided assistance and traffic control. The Bonnyville Fire Department also assisted with extrication and righting the vehicle.

"A witness to the collision stopped and assisted a 38-year-old female passenger, of Kehewin Cree Nation, who had minor injuries," according to police. The woman was treated by EMS on scene. The 47-year-old male driver was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.

A Bonnyville RCMP investigation is ongoing. An Alberta RCMP Collision Reconstructionist attended and is assisting with this investigation.
