ST. PAUL - The athletes might be tiny, but the excitement and energy at the ninth annual Timbits Future All-Star Game on Feb. 21 filled the Clancy Richard Arena.

The St. Paul Canadiens Minor Hockey Association welcomed families, friends and other supporters to the arena, with the youngest members of the St. Paul Minor Hockey Association offering strong performances on the ice. Nearly 40 Timbit hockey players were split into two teams for some friendly competition.

The game included two 30-minute periods, with a 15 minute intermission where hockey players enjoyed hot chocolate and donuts before heading back to the ice to finish the game. Officials of the game, Dario Zappitelli and Wade Howse, kept things under control and organized on the ice.

Guest goalies Kale Fontaine and Kayson Quinney kept a few pucks out of the net, while also encouraging the young athletes on the ice to play hard. The score stayed close throughout the hour of play, ending in yet another tie for Team White and Team Red.

The evening also acted as an opportunity to honour the St. Paul Canadiens midget players who are in their last season with the association. This year, there were eight minor hockey players recognized, including: Annabelle Culham, Hannah Skyrpan, Austin Caouette, Wyatt Feland, Jared Hall, Tristan Lafreniere, Austin Leroux, and Ethan Rayner.

The weekend was a busy one for many of the young hockey players. After Friday night's game, everyone went home to get a good night's sleep, then returned to the ice for the initiation hockey tournament on Feb. 22, featuring teams from throughout the area.
