Glendon Derby returns with a bang

A number of local competitors took top honours at this year's Glendon Demolition Derby and Mudbogs.

GLENDON - An impressive crowd showed up eager to witness some exciting action at the 31st annual Glendon Demolition Derby on Saturday afternoon. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the popular event was back - and it did not disappoint. 

When all was said and done, first place in the derby truck category would go to Glendon's own Blake Hassan. Second place would be claimed by Chase Burshtinski, also from Glendon, and third would go to Hunter French from Hinton.

On the derby car side, first place in Heat A would go to Tom Kemsley Jr. of Glendon, and second in Heat A would go to Shawn Gardner of Brandon, Manitoba. Third place in Heat A would go to Derek Auger of Peace River.

First place in Heat B would go to Dakota Theroux of Bonnyville, and second place in Heat B would go to Tom Kemsley Jr., and Dave Kemsley would take third place in Heat B.

Trophies would also be handed out to a few stand-outs. In the Best Dressed Vehicle category, Corbin Ganser of Glendon would take top honours. Shawn Gardner of Brandon, Manitoba, would take the "Furthest away driver" award.

The Most Aggressive Truck Driver award would go to Blake Hassan, and the Most Aggressive Car Driver award would go to Derek Auger.

But, it wasn't only about crashing and smashing. Competing throughout the day were a number of mudboggers, who made their way up and down a muddy track. 

First place in the mudbog was Sharlene Friesen of Edson, second place was Brandon Hedrick of St. Paul, and third place was Cam Walsh of Glendon.

The King of the Hill title went to Cam Walsh, and the Most Aggressive/Heart award went to Robert Livingston from Alexander.

A total of 17 trucks, six cars, and 18 mudboggers took part in this year's event.
