UPDATE: Highway 28 remains closed as police investigate fatal collision near Fort Kent

Detours are setup along Highway 28 between Bonnyville and Fort Kent as emergency crews respond to what has been reported as motor vehicle collision.

UPDATE:

BONNYVILLE - Just before 1 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP confirmed they are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck.

"There is one fatality and no other injuries reported to the individuals involved," according to police. The collision occurred near Fort Kent.

The highway will be closed for several hours due to the police investigation. Traffic is being diverted around the collision scene at Range Road 451 to Township Road 615 and back onto Hwy. 28 on Range Road 452.

"A collision analyst has been dispatched to the scene. The semi-truck may be laden with crude oil and leaking diesel fuel," according to RCMP. 

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Police will update when the highway reopens to the public.
