Hot Christmas meal dished up in Bonnyville for those in need

Volunteers arrived early Christmas Day at the Bonnyville Friendship Centre to prepare a hot holiday meal for community members in need. The hot meal was the first ever to be served up on Christmas Day at the centre, made possible by the support of a local company.

BONNYVILLE – For the first time ever, the Bonnyville Friendship Centre was able to serve up a hot Christmas Day meal for those in need. The hot meal made possible with support from the local company Trinity Xpress Ltd.

The Christmas meal was served up to roughly 175 people from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 25.

The Friendship Centre’s first Christmas lunch was made possible with support from Trinity Xpress Ltd. and community volunteers.

Jason Toews, owner of Trinity Xpress, told Lakeland This Week, that the company was made aware of the opportunity to sponsor the meal from an employee who is married to a staff member of the Bonnyville Friendship Centre.

"We thought it was a worthy cause. At this time of year, there is a lot of people that don't really have anywhere to go," said Toews.

Trinity Xpress had also donated hockey tickets to the Friendship Centre to offer as a prize, hoping encourage others to donate to the local food bank.
