Indie feature film to shoot in the Lakeland region

Film Crew

ST. PAUL – County of St. Paul council approved the temporary road closure of Township Road 574 (Moosehills Road) for a portion of the day on Sept. 15, to allow for a film crew to work in the area. Information was presented to council during the monthly council meeting on Aug. 9.

On behalf of a film producer working on an indie feature film called "Kemooch," the St. Paul Elk Point Economic Development Alliance (STEP), per STEP's Film Friendly Operating Procedures, requested County council temporarily close Township Road 574 for an estimated period of six hours on the requested date.

The anticipated shooting date will be Sept. 15, and the specific location along the road will soon be confirmed.

The shooting date coincides with harvest in the County of St. Paul, so County council will be notifying residents in advance so they can plan around the use of the closed section of Township Road 574.

According to information presented, more details will be available no later than Aug. 17.

STEP Film Initiative background

STEP created the Film Initiative to support and attract the film industry to the region and make the local area a film-friendly community. The Operating Policy and Procedures under the Film Initiative guide the film industry and municipalities that are part of STEP, to ensure mutually beneficial relationships exist.

According to the Operating Policy and Procedures, a film-friendly community depends on the region's ability to understand and support the film industry's unique requirements. Further, it states, "This involves coordination through the STEP Economic Development Alliance and their ability to provide ongoing, collaborative support across all municipalities and departments working efficiently and effectively with the industry."

In addition, the Operating Policy and Procedures also states that the film industry provides diversity and economic potential to the STEP region and those who work and reside there.
