The provincial government has said this Friday is the start day for Stage 2 of the Alberta Covid re-launch. Pools and recreation areas will be allowed to open, indoor group numbers will grow from restrictions of 25 to 50, and outdoor events can have up to 100 people in attendance. Team sports are also being permitted.
While Lac La Biche County officials have been preparing and planning for the re-launch for weeks, there is still a lot of work to do, says Lac La Biche County spokesperson Jihad Moghrabi.
Patience
In a statement to the community just hours after yesterday's provincial announcement of the re-launch, Mogrhabi was urging the community to be patient.
"The Province’s stage two COVID-19 relaunch will take effect on June 1 ... , and we’re still developing a plan for reopening Lac La Biche County recreation facilities," notes the message. "Thank you for your patience as we take appropriate measures to safely reopen to the public. We will announce a date for reopening Lac La Biche County recreation facilities in the near future."
Municipal staff are also urging the public to remember to pre-register for any upcoming prgrams that will be made available in Stage 2. Walk-ins will not be permitted
Campgrounds open stalls, nightclubs still closed
The second phase of the province's relaunch will also see the lifting of half-capacity occupancy at restaurants, but social distancing measures are still to be in place with no more than six people sitting at a table. Provincial campgrounds will also be moved to full occupancy. When the reservation system for campgrounds opened on June 1, only 50 per cent occupancy was allowed.
The POST has put in calls to officials with the Lac La Biche Minor Hockey Association for comments on when the upcoming season may begin, or what planning they are doing. We'll provide updates when that information becomes available.
Nightclubs, amusement parks, major sporting events and tournaments, large conferences and music festivals are still not permitted. Travel outside the province is also not recommended. Those items are part of the Stage 3 relaunch. The date of that relaunch has not been announced.
The province's Stage 2 relaunch comes a week earlier than scheduled.
