Lac La Biche RCMP issue missing person report on BC man

Missing man has ties to BC and Alberta

LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche RCMP are hoping the public can assist with their investigation of a missing BC man who was last seen in the Lac La Biche area.

On Nov. 16, 2021 at approximately 11:50 a.m. Lac La Biche RCMP received a report that 46-year-old Thomas Nixon was missing. Nixon was last seen on Friday, Nov. 12 at a hotel in Lac La Biche. Nixon was in the Lac La Biche area for work, and was from Chetwynd, B.C.

RCMP say there is concern for his safety and well-being. Police would like to speak with him, or anyone with information on his whereabouts.

BC travel

When asked if there was concern the BC man could have been stranded or affected by road closures and devastating flooding and landslides in the British Columbia interior, Lac La Biche RCMP Corp. Jason Dyment said that while the flooding could be one factor in the investigation, there is a general concern for Wilson's well-being, no matter where he may be.

"That's what we are trying to piece together. He does have links to several other areas, and we are trying to follow as many leads as possible," said Dyment.

The torrential rains that caused the flooding, road closures, mudslides and washouts began on the night of Nov. 13. According to Weather Network information, by the next day, the damage was fully underway. One woman was confirmed dead after her vehicle and several others were washed off a southern BC highway near Lillooet, north of Vancouver. Traffic disruptions due to the flooding and road closures in BC have affected highway travel as far north as Grande Prairie.

Wilson is not believed to have his own vehicle.

Mark Thomas Wyndham Nixon is described as

•             6’1” tall

•             240 lbs

•             Blue eyes

•             Brown hair

•             Usually has a large beard

Lac La Biche RCMP are asking the public's assistance for any information in relation to Nixon's disappearance.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lac La Biche RCMP at 780-404-2500, their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
