Residents in the hamlet of Beaver Lake — the Young's Beach subdivision — near Lac La Biche were without power for a scheduled two-hour maintenance project on February 14.
Fortis officials, working for the company that distributes electrical power to the area, sent out phone calls to all area residents days before, informing them of the outage.
The outage is for new construction work being completed by Fortis crews on a stretch of road leading into the Young's Beach subdivision. While much of the week-long work to install new streetlights and new power poles was done without service disruptions, Fortis officials say the two-hour disruption was needed to carefully transfer wires that can carry up to 138,000 volts of electricity.
The power service was expected to be restored by noon.
