Local man charged after police say 'chop shop' had 13 stolen vehicles

Two men from the Beaver Lake Cree Nation are facing more than 50 criminal charges after police searched an alleged 'chop shop' at a property on Gladue trail in Beaver Lake. 

The charges stem from an investigation that began On May 5 when Lac La Biche RCMP, the Integrated Auto Theft Unit, the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, the Lac La Biche Crime Reduction Unit, the RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP's Air Services swooped onto the property with a search warrant at just after 10 that morning.

"A search warrant was obtained following a lengthy investigation of a chop shop," says Lac La Biche RCMP Corp. Roxanne Generoux. "During the search, police located and seized 13 stolen vehicles, licence plates, machinery and various tools."

A subsequent investigation into other property located during the search has resulted in the arrest of Hank Gladue, 31 and Henry Gladue, 58.

Both men are facing 13 charges each of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three charges each of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Hank Gladue is also facing two counts of drug possession, four charges of unsafe storage of a firearm and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

RCMP have issued a warrant for Hank Gladue's arrest.

Henry Gladue is facing 14 additional charges of unsafe storage of a firearm. He was arrested and released on an court order to be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on July 13.  His court order also restricts him from possessing firearms.
