MALLAIG – Are you still looking for something fun to do this weekend? The community of Mallaig is inviting everyone, no matter who or where they are, to join them for a day of fun activities at Cabrini Park - and it’s for a good cause too.
On Aug. 24, a handful of organizations from the community will come together to host the ninth annual Cabrini Park Challenge Cup, which is an annual charity bean bag tournament. Registration for a team of two people is $100.
Laurier Jodoin is among the many organizers involved in the day. He said proceeds will go to the Mallaig Museum, the Mallaig Arena Project, and Mallaig Minor Hockey Association. The event helps keep hockey accessible to youth in the community by keeping fees as low as possible.
As part of the festivities, the annual event also features a parade and a tractor and car show.
Jodoin said he is thankful for all the support the event and the community has had in the past.
“The support we get... it’s unbelievable,” especially for a smaller community like Mallaig, he says, adding, it’s “humbling” to see what people can accomplish when they come together.
“It’s a great and fun event. Whether you’re playing or not, just come out, enjoy the games, have a couple of drinks or two if you’re of age, or have a burger,” encourages Jodoin.
“Anyone can come and hang out for the day,” he said, adding, the event is also a way to showcase the Mallaig community.
