Man arrested after suspicious vehicle reported

FISHING LAKE - A man was arrested following a report of a suspicious vehicle in Fishing Lake in the early morning hours of Jan. 28.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Elk Point RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers responded to the call and found a car matching the description provided by the caller. A male was inside the vehicle sleeping. Items that could be used as weapons were visible in the vehicle, according to RCMP.

The male was woken up and arrested without incident. The car was not insured or registered, according to RCMP. Further investigation found the man was prohibited from driving and possessing weapons.

"An axe and two knives were seized along with what is believed to be a small amount of methamphetamine," reads the media release.

“A call from a passerby led to this arrest,” said Sgt. David Henry, Elk Point Detachment Commander. “We appreciate the tips from the community and will continue to follow up on them promptly.”  

Shadaine Stanley (24) of Onion Lake, SK was charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Fail to comply with a probation order (x2)

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 30.
