Middle schools team up to host first Bonnyville Basketball Classic

The first ever Bonnyville Basketball Classic tournament for junior high students was held in Bonnyville earlier this month and drew in 14 teams from across the region.

BONNYVILLE – École des Beaux-Lacs and Dr. Brosseau School teamed up to host the first Bonnyville Basketball Classic for Grades 7-9, over the Jan. 20 weekend.

The tournament included eight boys teams competing at Dr. Brosseau and six girls teams that took to the courts at Beaux-Lacs.

“It was a great turnout and gave our junior players exposure to tournament play with all certified referees at each game,” said Paul Bourgin, the secretary of Lakeland Schools Athletic Association (LSAA).

Winning the first place in the Bonnyville Basketball Classic on the boys side was H.E. Bourgoin.

The boys from École de Sommet came out of the tournament with second place, while Dr. Brosseau’s team swiped bronze.

Competing at Beaux-Lacs, both girls' teams from Cold Lake Junior High dominated the competition with Cold Lake’s Team A taking first place and Team B taking silver.

The girls team from Glendon School earned bronze during the tournament.
