Music in the Forest continues May 20 with Two Late to the Party

Tickets available online for Churchill Park concert

LAC LA BICHE - The popular Music in the Forest series returns to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park this summer, with the Calgary – based group Two Late To The Party bringing their unique, eclectic style of indie retro folk and bluegrass to the Churchill Amphitheater on May 20.

The Music in the Forest series is part of the Alberta Parks summer programming, and features monthly concerts held in the intimate setting of the park.

Two Late to the Party, which released its first album, The Great Unraveling in 2020, features Adam Corkett on vocals and guitar, vocalist and keyboardist Alessandra Enns, as well as percussionist Andrew Kruschell. The band received a Western Canadian Music Award, as well as a YYC Music Award for best folk single in 2022.

The May 20 show is one of several slated for the band during a busy summer of touring.

“Recent times have been quite busy”, stated Corkett, adding that the band recently recorded its sophomore album, In The Sunrise, at Wheelhouse Sound in High River.

“We definitely took a different approach with this album, relying on crowdfunding efforts from family and friends, who were a great support for us,” Corkett explained. “During the week we were in the studio recording In The Sunrise, my brother, a multi-instrumentalist who lives in Ottawa, added some of the horn and bass tracks as well as the trombone, an instrument that I haven’t played since I was a youth. All in all, it was a great family effort.”

Music on the album includes some songs that had been written during the long months of the pandemic when opportunities to perform live were limited. Track titles include "All I Want Is Love" and "Sorrow Oh Sorrow", which will be featured at the concert on May 20.

Corkett says the band is excited about playing their first performance in Lac La Biche.

“It’s going to be a great show, we’re looking forward to this beautiful park and playing in the natural environment,” he said. “It’s always wonderful to perform for people who have never seen us live before, which gives us the opportunity to reach new fans.”

Following their performance at Music in the Forest, Corkett, Emms, and Kruschell, who graced the stage at the East Coulee Springfest near Drumheller earlier this month, will be making a stop at the Ravenwood Music Festival in Edmonton, playing on the same bill as iconic Canadian rock singer Sass Jordan.

After the band’s busy tour schedule winds down, this collection of energetic musicians has plans to head back into the studio.

“We’ve been talking about it a lot lately and hope to release our third album in the next couple of months,” Corkett affirmed.
