Sunny, blue skies and the lakeside park at McArthur Place was the backdrop for an afternoon of activities and culture in Lac La Biche on June 21.
Indigenous culture and history were on full display for a celebration to recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day. Several hundred people, many children from local schools filled the park area to watch, listen and learn about Indigenous culture through music, dance, stories and prayers.
Dancers and drummers from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation were joined by local Metis dancers and musicians who filled the two hour event with colours and sounds of Indigenous culture.
The day also featured a free hot-dog lunch for attendees.
National Indigenous Peoples Day has been recognized in the country since 1996. In Lac La Biche, the event was hosted through a partnership between Portage College and Lac La Biche County.
