LAC LA BICHE - Thousands of dollars were raised for Portage College internal scholarships and awards at a gala banquet on Friday night at the Lac La Biche campus.
The night featured NHL alumni Kevin Lowe, Kevin McClelland and Doug Gilmour as guest speakers, along with Lac La Biche County's most recent Sports Hall of Fame inductees Ken Scullion and Randy Wowk.
Hundreds of guests filled the Portage gymnasium to bid on silent auction items — many with sports themes — and go head-to-head in live auctions for golf packages, VIP treatment and dressing room access to Edmonton Oilers games and unique experiences offered through college programming.
Guests even bid on seating arrangements at the banquet, with more than $4,500 raised in a pre-supper raffle to have one of the three NHL Stanley Cup ring-holders at their table.
College officials expect to have an exact amount of funds raised early next week.
